Eduhub + Onboarding Manual 2026
Welcome to Eduhub+: a guide for new members
You have just joined Eduhub+, the Swiss community for digital learning in higher education. This guide helps you find your place within your first 30 days: where things are, who does what and how to take part.
There is no need to read it in one go. Start with the checklist, then come back to the other sections when you need them. The latest version is always in the Resources section of the portal.

Your first 30 days
Six small steps are enough to become an active member. None of them takes more than a few minutes, apart from attending your first event.
Week 1: get set up
Sign in to the portal at eduhub.plus with your Switch edu-ID, or with a manual account, and complete your profile. Edu-id is used for connecting to the portal
Subscribe through the join form, if you have not done so yet, to receive the Observatory newsletter.
Weeks 2 and 3: choose your entry point
Read the Special Interest Group descriptions below and write to eduhub@switch.ch to join the one that fits your work.
Register for the next webinar on the Eduhub+ page.
By day 30: meet people
Attend your first webinar or SIG meeting, and stay for the discussion.
Note one practice from your institution that others could learn from. The section on contributing shows where to share it.
Who we are
Eduhub+ connects more than 1,300 people who work on digital teaching and learning in Swiss higher education. Teaching staff, educational technologists and pedagogical support teams meet here to exchange knowledge, test new practices and move forward together.
The community has existed since 2008, when the Swiss Virtual Campus programme ended and support centres asked Switch to keep its network of specialists alive. Switch has hosted it ever since.
Our mission is to strengthen collaboration and knowledge sharing around digital technologies across Swiss higher education institutions.
As a member, you can:
- build a national network of peers and experts;
- follow emerging trends in digital learning;
- compare practices and tool choices with colleagues in other institutions;
- take part in webinars, working groups and the annual conference.
Eduhub, eduhub or Eduhub+? You will see all three. They name the same community: Eduhub+ is its current name, and older pages and events may still use the earlier one.
Find your way around the portal
The portal at eduhub.plus is the home of the community, with a shared space for everyone and a space for each SIG. It runs on Moodle, the environment most member institutions already use for their own teaching.
| Section | What you find there | Start by |
|---|---|---|
| The community, its mission and how it is organised | Reading the overview | |
| The people and institutions in the community | Completing your own profile | |
| Shared exchanges and the SIG spaces | Opening the space of your SIG | |
| Webinars, meetings and conferences | Registering for the next webinar | |
| Publications, reports and shared materials, including this guide | Browsing the latest Observatory |
Need help with the portal? Write to eduhub@switch.ch.
Special Interest Groups
The four Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are the working heart of the community, with 139 memberships in 2026. Each one explores a topic in depth, and most meet three times a year. You can join more than one.
A working session at the Switch Forum Days 2026
| SIG | What it works on | A good fit if you | Leaders |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shared AI frameworks, AI literacy, ethics and the changing role of educators. Also monitors trends for the Observatory. | Support or shape AI use in teaching | Jeff Van de Poël, Stefano Tardini, Thomas Steiner | |
| The whole assessment cycle, from item design and exam delivery to integrity, accessibility and automated feedback. | Run or redesign digital exams | Tobias Halbherr, Omar Benkacem | |
| Creating, sharing and reusing open resources, including licensing, repositories and guidance for educators. | Produce or promote open content | Annechien Helsdingen, Mathilde Panes, Nicole Krüger | |
| Technical and pedagogical practices around Moodle, plugins and joint projects for the Swiss context. | Administer Moodle or support its users | Camille Tardy, Christoph Mohr |
To join a SIG, write to eduhub@switch.ch and name the group. A sentence on your role and what you hope to find helps the leaders welcome you. Leaders may change: the SIG page always shows the current list.
Events and meeting points
For a first contact, choose a webinar: it is online, free and takes little time. The other formats follow once you know where your interests lie.

Stay informed
The monthly Observatory newsletter is the simplest way to follow the field. Written in English and sent to about 1,250 people, each issue opens with an editorial and brings together:
- 2 articles from scientific publications;
- 1 report;
- 3 international news items;
- 4 news items from member institutions.
The Resources section of the portal gathers what the community produces, such as newsletters, survey reports and SIG materials. Two national surveys, on Moodle practice and on AI and teaching, will publish their reports at the end of 2026.
Ways to contribute
The community depends on what its members bring, and a small contribution already counts. Pick the level that matches your time this semester.
A few minutes
- Answer a community survey.
- Send a news item from your institution for the Observatory.
- Suggest a webinar topic.
A few hours
- Join a SIG meeting and share a case from your institution.
- Present a practice in a webinar.
- Add a useful resource to your SIG space.
A larger commitment
- Lead a workshop or take a stand at the Eduhub Days marketplace.
- Work on a SIG report or guide.
- Help to lead a SIG.
To propose anything, write to eduhub@switch.ch or speak to your SIG leaders.
How the community is run
You take part through events and SIGs, while two small bodies keep the whole moving in the same direction.
Four members and a Switch representative: vision and next steps
Institutional representatives: annual roadmap and SIG coordination
Thematic working groups, meeting about 3 times a year
More than 1,300 people at Swiss higher education institutions
Hosts the community. Its coordination team supports every level: scientific coordinator and project assistant.
The Board is made up of Bianca Bärlocher (University of Basel), Lisa Messenzehl (ZHAW), Thomas Steiner (HES-SO), Stefano Tardini (USI) and Jeff Van de Poël (Switch and Unil). It meets every month. [To confirm: current composition]
The Council brings together representatives of the institutions, and the governance page lists its members. It takes over from the ETWG and is planned to meet four times a year. [To confirm after the vote at the Eduhub Days]
The coordination team runs the day-to-day work: Jeff Van de Poël as scientific coordinator and Alison Carré as project assistant.
Funding: Switch has supported the community since 2008. From 2027, funding is planned to come from contributions by member institutions. [To confirm after the Foundation Council of 26 November]
